This is one of the best books I've ever read. Leaving Eden into a world of toil, repeating generational sins and curses, the serpent, Cain and Abel over and over, good and less good gifts, the power the older generation holds over the younger, and a thread of mercy and grace running thru it all for those who take the time to see and turn towards it. I'll write a more thorough review shortly.

This book isn't perfect fir there are things that drive me nuts about it. There were numerous long passages of moralizing which I just flat out disagreed with. Yet Steinbeck is such a brilliant writer with such painstakingly clear details that I will I overlook it. Who says you had to agree with an author to recognize that this is a masterpiece of American literature?
