Crime and Punishment is not a simple crime drama, the Law and Order of 1800's Russia. Instead it's focused on the punishment of the protagonist, Raskolnikov, for the crime he's committed. The novel is a race to see which will lead to the protagonist's downfall first, the pursuit of the investigators (From a hundred rabbits you can't make a horse) or the mental anguish of the murderer (Water wears out a stone). ...more
