Loved the premise of writing a book using old photographs as inspiration. What killed my interest was realizing about 3/4 in that the book was written to be part of a series. EVERY YA BOOK DOES NOT NEED TO BE A DRAWN OUT SERIES. Ugh, my new pet peeve. Why? Why? Why? This wasn't written poorly, in the grammatical sense (unlike some YA books), but it lacked depth of storyline & character. Why bother making a series of it? Turns out it this book is just another grab for parents' money. You know, th

This really should be 3.5 stars.
I thought the book was interesting and had a unique premise. What I didn't like about the book is the ending could easily have said "to be continued." Overall I enjoyed this book, but went into it not knowing anything about it. I don't typically like fantasy books, but I guess this is how I would classify it. I think it's an "adult novel", but had several characteristics of a young-adult novel. I liked the characters quite a bit, but the ending was a total cop-out. I finished it in two days, so it was engaging enough, and I would recommend it to certain people, but it's definitely not a book for everyone.

I so enjoyed this book! It was just quirky enough for me. The creepy old photos - and the fact that they are real - made it all the more erie. It is not a horror book, but in no way do I think it was advertised as such. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
