This book sat on my shelf for a very long time. More than a year ago, a friend saw it, and suggested I read this next - that it didn't matter what I planned on reading, this book needed to be bumped up on my list because it was really, really good. "Yeah, ok," I said, but I ignored the comment. I finally decided it was time to read The Shadow of the Wind recently, and I don't know what I was thinking when I didn't take that advice before.

What an amazing book. I don't know that I describe it as a mystery, but there is number of subplots that you spend the book trying to figure out exactly how they fit together and understanding who's who.

I have had a hard copy of this book on my physical TBR pile for quite a while. I finally picked it and am glad that I did. I augmented my read by listening to it on the car on audio book through Libby. I didn't know until the credits that the author composed the music that is used in the audio book. What a talent! His music sets the tone of the book very well.

Very very engaging book! Setting in the old Barcelona, this book portraits the dark era of the great country Spain, and how it affected the literature world. Lost books, old romance, mysterious author, dark secret and tragic past, all were cooked really well into this gothic book. I just don't want the book to end!

This book was recommended to me a few years ago and I have finally gotten around to reading it. I really enjoyed the gothic style of the storytelling and the slow, intimate manner in which the characters were drawn. It's the first in a trilogy that I am excited to continue.

This is suspenseful and intricate, with interesting characters and a lot going on - really hard to put down! The dark atmosphere of Franco's dictatorship adds to the suspense and the pervasive tension, but the youth of the main characters keeps it from going too far.
