What Members Thought
Well that was long. I have thoughts, but probably nothing super new to add. I was so resistant to reading this, and I'm so glad that Arlington Public Library chose it as their big summer read- so I finally felt compelled to join in and do it. This is both way funnier and way more current than I expected. And also wildly digressing and I know more than I ever wanted to know about blubber and whaling.

This book was not at all what I expected it to be. I of course knew in the abstract that it was about the battle between Captain Ahab and the white whale, but I didn't realize how little of the book that accounted for, and that the majority of this tome is a treatise on whales and whaling. I listened to the book and even though the reading by William Hootkins was fabulous, I found myself so deadened by the sermonizing that even when there was action, I almost missed it.
