I have too many feelings about the feelings this book makes me feel to write properly. Junot Díaz's stories work on so many levels, in so many spaces, for so many kinds of people.

i liked it. a lot.

also, i feel kind of like i have been "that guy" emotionally so many times, my heart is just too far into these stories for me to even make a sentence about them. when díaz heaps punishment on his characters for their infidelity, callous behavior, cold shoulders or just plain lazy bad communication, ...more

It took me a little bit longer to get into this book, as opposed to Oscar Wao. The second half of the book solidified my admiration for Diaz. I kind of wish I had reread his other work a more recently so that the characters were fresher in my mind.

Diaz once again demonstrates that he can write well. His character, Yunior, is lively and feels real. Too bad he's such a sucio. The middle story (the title of which escapes me) about the woman working at the hospital laundry, didn't seem like it really belonged. The last story was told in the second person, which I felt didn't work very well. It took a while for me to figure out that the narrator wasn't, in fact, talking to someone else.
