Summer 2021 (August);
I really quite loved this book.
The writing is smooth, lyrical, and so well bandied about in every mood. I love the deal that is struck between The Dark and Addie, and all the repercussions that are made to fall out from it (and especially that it's impossible to work around them). I love the clear message about 'the power beyond an idea' being sometimes more powerful than anything specific and set in stone. I really quite loved this book.

This was an intriguing story, but a little long - 3.5 stars.
Addie is an absorbing and sympathetic character, and there's lots of clever writing about how she endures, works around her wish/curse, or at times really suffers from it. There's romance and art, and some nice reflections on mortality, connection, and expression.
I would have loved to see how this read if Henry never became a POV character though. As soon as we started following him, I got bored. I wound up cranking the speed on my audi ...more
