Wow! This was certainly one of my favorite reads this year! I am a bit burned out of WWII reading as it is hard to read at times and there have been so many beautiful books about it that I feel that most books can't match my love of the other stories..but a book like this comes along and reminds me of why I have to read more of these stories. A beautiful, miraculous story of love and perseverance in amongst the horror of Auschwitz. I read the whole book thinking it was a fiction story based on a

Excellent, excellent story, quick but sad read. I almost wish this would become a movie but I realize because of the tragic subject matter it might be hard to produce and watch. This is one of those important books that I think everyone should read.

I feel bad that I didn't like this book more, especially since it's a novel based on the memories of one of the characters in it, and was written with the input of that person's child. It just didn't connect with me, and I finished with the feeling of "meh," which is most definitely not the reaction you would expect to have to a novel about a personal story from a horrific time.

I listened to this book on audio, and I think I got through it better because of that. I've read a lot of Holocaust-era personal memoirs, and sometimes it's truly difficult to read about the worst parts of the authors' experiences. With this audiobook, the narrator's voice was emotional at the right times, but also comfortable and familiar and I liked that.

This story was told in a very captivating way while still highlighting both the horrors of Auschwitz and the hope and resilience that many of the captive exhibited.

This book really was fantastic - more so because it’s based on a true story. Love myself a WWII book.
