Shelves: historical-fiction, romance, tragedy, world-war, europe, biography-memoir, holocaust

I want to like this book more, actually. The story is so inspiring especially because it's based on true events. But somehow - the way Morris writes the book couldn't capture my heart. It's heartbreaking, sure, and lots of tragic moments (it's a holocaust story!)- but I lost the real, genuine voice in this book. It's as if Morris only tried to deliver the story of Lale, and made sure she put everything right and completely, without giving it the sense of reality and humane touch. I don't know pe ...more

I had a really difficult time finishing this book because the writing seemed so scattered. The story has the potential to be a beautiful love story, but I am disappointed.

It seemed to lack in character development and did not paint a realistic picture of what was going on at the time.

I thought that this was a good book. These stories do need to be told and I am glad he was able to before he passed away. I did feel that some of the writing style was not great, and in some ways did feel more like a screen play.
