What Members Thought
✅ Things I liked:
* I really liked the story overall and how it was uniquely told, especially with all of the complex relationships.
* The story surprised me! I had it in my mind that it was going to be about something else entirely - like, older than the timeframe in which it took place and in a somewhat Victorian era-ish. I didn’t bother to read the book summary before starting it, and was actually happy it wasn’t what I thought it was.

This book was super fun and dishy without being trashy and way over the top. I really enjoyed Evelyn's story, and how unapologetic she was about how she made herself famous and the decisions she made in her personal life. I felt like the surprise reveals (both Evelyn's own earlier on and the connection later on) were a bit heavy-handed, but ultimately they didn't take away from the story. Solid escapist read with some good relationship advice thrown in!

This is the story of Evelyn Hugo - famous movie star, and her biographer Monique. Monique has been approached by Evelyn to write her life story. Evelyn promises to hold nothing back and will tell her life story that can published when she dies. Monique is thrilled but curious as to why Evelyn has picked her, of all people to write her story? Evelyn's life is told through chapters which are named after her husbands. Most are awful, some are sweet. I enjoyed the story and it all unfolds nicely. A

Read it the first time years ago (5 stars then) and just finished the audio book (5 stars again). Loved the Old Hollywood backdrop to this novel. I was rooting for Eveyln the whole time even when she did things that were maybe not in her best interests. As someone in my book club recently said, I really wish Evelyn was a real actress so that I could watch her films with the other characters in this book.
