I'll be honest, I thought there is no way this book will live up to the hype. Then I started it at 11:30PM last night and finished it at 4:30AM this morning. I literally couldn't put it down. I needed to know more.

2.5 stars. I'd heard such good things about this book! I wanted to love it! I even recommended it to friends *before I read it*. I was fully prepared to leave my beloved horror novels for a bit, and read something that was supposed to be immersive and fun and heart wrenching. But...no. So many things in this book irritated me!

This is the third book in a row that I've read that has me completely under its spell (and the 2nd one by this author this year). Juxtaposing the story of Evelyn Hugo telling her story to the narrator/journalist Monique Grant and the actual life of Evelyn Hugo is perhaps the best and only way the reader could have this story unfold, with past and present implications to the life that Evelyn has led, starting with her first husband and her ticket to Hollywood.
