Taylor Jenkins Reid takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Upon meeting Evelyn Hugo, the former actress appears to be just another Hollywood socialite. As Monique reveals the layers of Hugo's life, she realizes that the actresses fought her way to the top. While determined to succeed, the people Evelyn loved were worth more to her than trophies.

Shelves: bookclub-grasslands, 2019-read, audiobooks, rws-2019-fall

This delightful book was selected by my bookclub for this month. It's a perfect choice--juicy Hollywood gossip with enough romance and twists to the story to keep everyone engaged and probably enough meat to generate at least a little bit of conversation. I couldn't wait to get back to this book and loved these characters. This isn't high literature, but it sure is fun.

The readers for the audiobook brought each of the voices to life and helped keep straight which part of the story was happening- ...more

I'd give this book 4.5 stars, if I could.

I gotta say, Taylor Jenkins Reid really knows what to do with fictional stars and interview novel formats. After reading Daisy Jones a few years ago, I wasn't sure what this book would offer and I didn't know a lot going into it, except that my college-aged cousin recommended it. Evelyn Hugo and her interviewer Monique are absolutely wonderful characters to lose yourself in - although neither of them are really above reproach in their lives - and the auth ...more

Not sure there's anything I could say that hasn't been said already. This was beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. I both admire and despise Evelyn. No matter if you like historical fiction or not this book is a good choice. ...more
