I went in not knowing too much about this, other than several friends had rated it highly. This turned out to be a fantastic way to read it, as the twists and turns just kept coming. The last, and perhaps biggest, revelation about the people orbiting around the star that is Evelyn absolutely side-swiped me and definitely elevated the finale.

The constant theme of finding and making the family you need was so wonderful, even when messy. And the LGBTQ lense through the decades was well-written. I f ...more

Taylor Jenkins Reid takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Upon meeting Evelyn Hugo, the former actress appears to be just another Hollywood socialite. As Monique reveals the layers of Hugo's life, she realizes that the actresses fought her way to the top. While determined to succeed, the people Evelyn loved were worth more to her than trophies.

I'd give this book 4.5 stars, if I could.

I gotta say, Taylor Jenkins Reid really knows what to do with fictional stars and interview novel formats. After reading Daisy Jones a few years ago, I wasn't sure what this book would offer and I didn't know a lot going into it, except that my college-aged cousin recommended it.
