What Members Thought

I was really into this book, but it weirdly took forever to read, because it's pretty character-driven, which is not what you'd expect from a supposedly-light-hearted sci-fi space journey. It's a found family story, with an omniscient narrator that rotates focus on the ship Wayfarer's various crew members. And there are a lot of things to love about this book: there is such diversity among the characters and many of their stories and backgrounds are quite thought-provoking on issues of norms and

This was a good book. It was more about the characters and life in space, so the action was slow to start and there was a lot of world building. But, it was really fascinating to see how the world works and you really got to connect to the characters.

I enjoyed this. It’s equal parts Firefly and Mass Effect. There’s a strong thematic element around families we choose.
It felt lighter than I’d expected but I still really enjoyed it. Like, part of me just wanted the episodic nature of the novel to continue - like a tv show with a relatively strong sense of continuity but not a ton of huge narrative arcs. The journey is an excuse for character development.
