Shelves: audio-books, bookends-bookclub, read-in-2019

This books starts out slow and a little ... uninteresting until Claude arrives. Once Claude is here, the story really takes off. I found it to be a pretty powerful statement on parenting, acceptance, what we do for our children, what our children do for siblings, and just our society in general. Well worth the read.

I loved the premise of this book and thought it had so much potential. I was distracted by the writing style — it was super wordy and overly descriptive. I wish it had concentrated more on the actual story — so heartbreaking and moving.

This family is so loveable. But I don't like how they don't acknowledge their advantages in terms of how wealthy they are and the fact that this would have been a very different story if they were a family of color. ...more
