Shelves: mystery, suspense, thriller

It takes a long time for anything to happen in this book, even though the narrator immediately tells you that something life-changing is, in fact, going to happen. So for a long chunk of time you are getting swept up in lovely writing and normal life, getting to know the characters and waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's almost painful to rate this book so low, considering how much I love the Dublin Murder Squad books, but this one just didn't match up for me. I never really felt connected to many of the characters, certainly not with Toby, our protagonist, and I just could not really involve myself in their lives or decisions. And the end.
