This was an interesting premise, but I didn't enjoy it for the most part. I almost didn't even finish it, because I disliked the characters so much. The last couple of chapters were so intense, which almost made up for the rest of the book. Of course, I realized upon finishing, that maybe you weren't supposed to like the characters. That was the point. Lindsey, Sam, Ally, and Elody are the "mean girls" in this novel. They're each despicable in her own little way. Lindsey is the leader, and she h

In the beginning this book is so slow.. lots of repetition. But it's getting better and better after half part of the book. I love Sam Kingston and all her dilemmas, and OMG I love Kent!! My perfect candidate for book boyfriend of the year *wink*
Hate the ending though. But not because it's awful. It's just... sad. ...more

I loved this. The plot was kind of Groundhog's Day meets Mean Girls (though not a comedy), so pretty much right up my alley. A heartbreaking and beautifully written view into the inner life (and death) of one of the most popular girls at her school. The author was very compassionate towards her characters without letting them off the hook for their sometimes horrible actions. I listened to the audio version, which was narrated by a TV actress I enjoy (Sarah Drew). I loved her as the narrator, ev

One of the best written books I've read in a long, long time. A teen book, but Lauren Oliver has a way with words that just makes you feel like you're floating through the story, absorbing every detail and description without even realizing it.
This book in particular is exceptionally emotional as Sam Kingston relives the same day of her death 7 times. The book is filled with drinking, talk of sex, drugs, bullying, rumors, suicide and peer pressure. It feels very true to high school without tryi ...more

It was definitely a book that needs to be read a chapter at a time, slowly going through the chapters, as the chapters each represent another time that Sam, as she is called by her friends and family, relives the day.
It does get a bit mind-numbing to relive the same day, but with the events happening differently than the next and by the end I couldn't even recall what actually had happened by the final chapter that it felt more like a dream than anything and that by the final pages of the book, ...more

Bleh. I had high expectations of this book and was pretty disappointed. I finished it anyway. Sam is a terrible person with terrible friends and a terrible boyfriend. Then she dies and must learn the Important Lesson of Being Nice before she can move on into the light. Or whatever. She gets 7 chances to get this right, though she hardly deserves any of them. The characters were so unappealing (save for Kent) and the actions so bizarre that I had a hard time with this one. Parties and side charac

I listened to this on audiobook.
Absolutely awesome! I know people compare this to Groundhog Day, but I sort of like this better. I really like the way the cause and effect of random things coming out each successive day. I was able to trace each level of morality from day to day, which would be an excellent way to teach it in a classroom.
Finally, Kent may be my new favorite literary boyfriend. Sigh!
