I was disappointed in this book. All the rave reviews lead me to expect something extraordinary, but it was just ... okay.
I disliked the protagonist so much that it was difficult (or, impossible) for me to accept her redemption.
This reminds me a lot of Panic. The story is different, and the character is different, but the VOICE is the same; I guess that makes sense, it's Ms Oliver's voice.
First chapter was hard to read: straight on navel gazing with an insecure, self-centered and thoughtlessly ...more

I've read a lot of really great YA novels lately and here's another one to add to the list....
Sam is a popular girl that suddenly finds herself dead. Sounds morbid, but this is a tale of redemption. After Sam dies, she discovers herself reliving her last day over and over again (yes...like Groundhog Day). She tries to make her last day end well, but she always awakes to the same Friday. As she relives the day, she starts to discover that she made many mistakes along the way and attempts to fix t ...more

If you could relive your last day before you die six times, what would you do differently? That's the premise of this book. Sam is a high school senior and has the perfect, popular friendships, the popular boyfriend and is just as careless and thoughtless as a teenager on top of the world can be.
The book is split up into seven sections, with each section the numbered day that she is on. It's thought-provoking and there's quite a bit of mystery going on. Lauren Oliver does a great job of capturin ...more

What I didn't like about this book: It read like Mean Girls & Heathers meets Groundhog Day. There were so many lines in the book that could be attributed to other books and movies that I had a problem with its originality. I know this isn't a typical YA book. However, it seemed to me that the author just used various other resources and combined them into one book.

Another book I wish I would have had when I was a teenager and fitting in meant everything. A powerful look at what really matters. Sam is in an accident one night and ends up reliving her last day over and over again, discovering a lot about herself and those around her. I couldn't put this one down!

I LOVED this book. A synopsis would have to include the similarities to the Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day" as well as a reference to Tina Fey's "Mean Girls." A Mean Girl who used to be picked on dies and has/gets to live her last day over and over to...not die? do it right? I won't spoil it for you, but I devoured this book. It was a great story and well written as well. I suppose this is considered Young Adult, but it certainly didn't read that way; the writing and story seemed way more soph

Short Attention Span Review: Think "Groundhog Day" (the movie) where the central character is a teenage girl who keeps reliving the day she died. Over and over again.

Maybe at age 39 I am finally too old for YA novels. I just didn't like this as much as everyone else seems to. I liked the premise, but found all the characters too unlikable to enjoy reading about. I realize that's the whole point - that the main character is a mean girl and learns not to be by reliving her last day over and over - but I feel like she should have learned that lesson a lot sooner.

Even though it was a huge book, it took no time to read through it. The story flowed well and once I started reading it, it really held my attention. I wish the ending was different but then I don't think it would have made as big of an impact.

Oliver does a great job of turning a rather unsavoury main character into somebody you don't want to let go of. Sam grows so much in her Groundhog Day situation and it's really a great story.
