I think I could give this book, which I listened to on audio, 5 stars. There were so many cool plot points, and lovely sentiments voiced through both dialogue and inner monologue/narration. However, it also made me uncomfortably frantic and weepy and unsettled - usually while driving - so I have to take it down a notch. I would strongly suggest reading the book, rather than listening to the audiobook, for that exact reason.

This book is an interesting play on the infinite worlds quantum theory.
Unfortunately, the book often seemed like the author was trying really hard to convince himself that choosing a stable and comfortable family life with a less than could have been job is really great. The protagonist here is pulled from his comfortable quiet life by a version of himself that went on to have the stunning science career without the girl/kid he could have had. Not the tightest, most lyrical prose I've read this year, nor the most 3-dimensional characters, but extremely engaging and fairly satisfying for what it is. Quick read. Super fun.
Would have made a great movie starring Bruce Willis between 5th Element and Armageddon.
Two things still bugging me (like 5thE Bruce Willis on a landline in the 23rd century still bugs me, 20 yrs after seeing it).

DNF. I liked this book better when it was called Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It breaks no new ground in sci-fi and is tediously written when it’s trying to be action packed.

I loved this book! A total pager turner that I couldn't put down! It had me guessing til the very end. Very clever and fun to be along for the ride.
