Sarah Waters is my new obsession.

I devoured this. I was sick all this past weekend, and it was the perfect distraction -- I couldn't put it down. Reminiscent of Oliver Twist, this novel contained a couple of twists that I didn't see coming, including the shocking revelation about a third of the way in. I found myself rooting for Sue all the way, and I found the emotional ending to be especially rewarding.

Well... it wasn't at all what I expected. I was expecting something like A Darker Shade of Magic with a Dickensian feeling to it, and I got... hmm... I suppose the base is a love story. It's more a literary fiction than Dickensian. The only Dickens in it is that it's kind of socially realistic view of Victorian society, though... it didn't feel like it.
