I didn't enjoy this as much as other Allende novels. I thought it was too drawn out and the characters (and their verbiage) just weren't that believable to me. And there were way too many secondary characters that really weren't pertinent to the plot. I did enjoy the setting and the early history of San Francisco, though. ...more
