I had been looking forward to reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle ever since a former book club member recommended it to me in around 2001. It didn't disappoint. I have read several other of Murakami's works and he is definitely one of my favorite authors. I love the trippy, magical, and quirky quality to his writing.

Man, was this book ever strange! I loved the first half of it, and I was so excited because this has been on my to-read shelf at home forever and I have probably been putting it off for a year.
But somewhere about halfway through I got totally turned off, around the time when Nutmeg and Cinnamon got introduced. It was like being thrown around in a Dali painting...and I like Dali, so not in a good way. It just kept getting more and more bizarre, and all these characters were introduced and nothing ...more
