This was delightful! Sometimes I think I've just aged past enjoying YA, but then something like this will come along. I was thoroughly enchanted and I couldn't wait to find out what happens next. Simon's friends and family are a lot of fun, and his journey was compelling (despite the fact that I'm not too big on coming of age stories).

Becky Albertalli gets the award for cutest YA book I’ve read this year.
I originally picked this book up as part of the Pop Sugar Challenge for 2018. There’s a category of “a book made into a movie you’ve seen before” and the movie came out this year. I loved the trailer and so I watched the movie and ADORED IT! Impressively, this book was published back in 2015 and in 3 short years, the movie was out! This tells me that I missed the hype and bandwagon hard for Simon.

I might not have picked this up, but it is getting to be fall and I have a few boxes still to check on my 2018 Pop Sugar Reading Challenge including reading a book made into a movie that I've already seen. I enjoyed the movie, so not surprisingly I also liked the book. The emerging relationship between Simon and Blue follows similar paths. Simon's development as a result of his email correspondence made for a highly sympathetic character and it was easy to be immediately invested in his story.

I’ll admit, I read pretty much the entire book in one day. And I loved it. A cute, heartwarming story that’s yes about coming out but also about how people change and how you can know someone so well and not know them at all.
Simon’s a lovable dork who reminds me a little of Elliot from In Other Lands. (Less sassy for sure. But possibly just as clueless.) He’s adorably real and easy to like. And generally the kind of guy you can’t help but cheer for. And his friends. I love his friends. I’m so r ...more

I don’t know how much my 3.5 star rating would be different if I hadn’t seen the movie first. Basically, I knew how things were going to play out in the end (mostly) so I want as pulled by the conflict as I might have if I didn’t know the ending.
All the same, the author is a fabulous way of writing small moments, and clearly describing the conflicts that many of us have in our heads to do two things at the same time. The characters were great that way, and I wish so many of my friends in high s ...more
