A solid 3.5 stars. I rounded up for the effort it must have taken to research this book. It’s a fascinating and terrifying glimpse into the fundamental Mormon church and the shocking crimes that have been committed by its members. This book describes that girls as young as 12 are programmed to believe that God is commanding them to marry men twice their age or more. If they don’t comply they are condemning themselves and their family. It’s shocking and unbelievable that this could be going on.

This had a lot of Mormon History framed with a murder and I found the book itself fascinating. There is a lot to unpack with this book and I enjoyed the way the author wrote and took me through things I probably otherwise would have found very dry and unappealing.
I wanted to like this book. But I think I wanted more out of it than I got. The history of the Mormon church and the separation of LDS from FLDS was interesting, but I just couldn't bring myself to care about the people profiled.
