This strange book is divided into three parts. I don't think all the parts appeal to all readers, but interestingly there's no consensus among readers about which part the reader enjoyed most. This is a difficult book to review because it's so strange. It starts with Yeong-hye deciding not to eat meat any more after having a disturbing dream. I liked this but am left baffled at the same time. I think the range of emotions felt by the reader made me rate at 4 stars but can't really express my why it deserves that rating. I think translation may have added to the confusion? ...more

A unique story about how one woman’s madness affects those around her. It gets quite grim by the last third of the book, so watch out. It affected my enjoyment quite a lot, but it’s well written and is very layered.

Very well written, easy read. I wish I had just read it quickly and not been reading other things, as this book has so much in it and to move away from it takes you away.

Written from 3 different perspectives about the main character who decides not to eat meat anymore because of a dream she had. Each perspective is selfish and not really about the main character-- but about how her decisions have effected them. None try to understand her slow decline into her mind.
