Excellent little tale :-)
As said "a summer tale of four sisters, two rabbits, and a very interesting boy. There's also a hound, another very interesting boy and a very scary lady involved.
It reminds me a lot of Little Women, with the girls moving in to a cottage for summer and befriending the rich boy of the mansion next to the cottage, but the Penderwicks have a father, but no mother.
I do not approve what mrs. Tifton did, no respectable lady would ever even allow oneself to think that way, no ...more

I would give this book a 3.5 star rating, if I could. I listened to it on audiobook.
This is the first in a series of books about the Penderwicks, 4 sisters and a father and a hound who are intelligent, confident, well-mannered (usually), well-intentioned, kind, and fun. Maybe it is because this audiobook was read by the same actress (I think) that read Savvy, but I see a lot of similarities. Four sisters, ages four through twelve, must amuse themselves while vacationing in a cottage in the Berkshire Mountains. It isn't long before they discover a young boy living next door. Jeffrey, living with his overbearing mother, lives in a very different world from theirs -one with boarding schools, formal gardens, and strict obedience. The sisters, who are used to running free with their dog Hound, make Jeffrey a part of their family and completely transform his orderly world.

Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty are four sisters on summer vacation, and this book chronicles their sweet, charming adventures. I couldn't help be reminded of Little Women while reading this book: four sisters who have adventures with the neighbor boy in a very character-driven story. This is a cute, wholesome story that would make for a good read-aloud.

This was a juvenile lit book. I would say for ages 8-12. It's nice to find books for kids about a family who loves each other and treats each other well.
