A hilarious read, perfect to end 2013 :) So many funny moments, twists, and crazy things along this book. I love the heroine, fantastic Bee, the daughter of Bernadette. This book shows us that being different is totally okay, and sometimes it's good to just release your creative energy, otherwise you're going literally crazy. ...more

What a hoot! MacArthur Genius Grant recipient and cutting-edge architect gives up her career and follows her husband to Seattle where he works for Microsoft. She finds Seattle a bit inhibiting and Seattle doesn't know quite what to make of her. Their daughter Bee, is a successful student at a local private school and as her reward for doing so well, her parents have promised to take her to Antarctica. I tore through this book in less than 6 hours. Hysterical, particularly for those of us who live (or have lived) in Seattle. The witty observations and commentary about Seattle's culture, weather, population, etc had me laughing out loud! I borrowed it from the library, but will be purchasing my own copy immediately! ...more

I can't believe I waited this long to read this - i read the reviews and it sounded great and it is!
I loved this book. The story is about a family living in Seattle. Bernadatte, husband Elgin, daughter Bee. Elgie works at Microsoft, Bee is an 8t th grader and Bernadette holds the whole family together. The story is told through various characters, their emails, notes, even newspaper articles. Bernadette was once a successful architect and her story slowy unfolds. The family is set to take a trip
