Great book...listened to 3/4 of it on audio. Very readable and easy to listen to. Loved the refresher course in Revolutionary War history. Hamilton was an amazing man, and his intellect and contribution to American history close to unparalleled. I highly recommend this book, but it is a brick! Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to read it. I only got it done 3 weeks because I had 6 hours of plane travel and 8 hours in the car last week to listen to it (often on 1.25x and 1.5x reader spee ...more

I'm not a history buff and I generally don't like biographies. Despite that, I thought this book was amazing - partly because Chernow is an incredible historian and author, partly because Hamilton was downright unbelievably amazing - a true, if fallible, genius. Highly recommend. Note - took me a long time to read it - it's long and I put it down at times and then went back to it, but experience didn't suffer for it. ...more

Since this year held two thick founding father biographies for me, I can't help but compare them - while the subject and politics here were more interesting than the John Adams book I read, there was just no beating the storytelling and prose in the Adams bio. But this was still pretty great. ...more
