2.5 stars. I heard how fabulous this book was going to be and the build up wasn't equal to the book. It was about the dust bowl and I love learning about that time period, but it was too much of the same thing over and over. Also, the ending wasn't satisfying enough. The title tells you how depressing it was too.

A truly fascinating non-fiction book about the Dust Bowl during the mid 1930s in the American Plains. This book won several awards, but what really motivated me to read it was hearing Egan on NPR, he was so personable and interesting. This book is a pretty quick read, and truly amazing. What concerns me is that it seems like most everyone has concluded that the Dust Bowl was created by man. Wow! What an expansive, terrifying, heartbreaking slice of history. Humans have been impacting climate change in the US for over a century and we haven’t gotten any more self aware yet. I love it when an author can make history feel so real that you are immersed in the story and this book didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend! #MountTBR
I loved the beginning of this. I learned a ton of new things. As the book went, it started to feel repetitive and I don't think much new was added. The end became interesting again. A pretty good look at a very unfamiliar piece of American history.
