This was the book club book for September, and if I hadn't been hosting this month, I can't say I would have trudged through all 100 (short) chapters. I know, I know -- this is one of those amazing books that I'm supposed to love. I'm good at breaking the mold, though.

It took me a long time to get into this book. Maybe that's because each chapter for the first hundred pages was a little vignette about an entirely new topic. Or maybe it was the pretentious way the author explains how wonderful th

I had very low expectations for this novel, probably because when I asked anyone who recommended it to me what it was about, they would say, "well, it's about the boy and a tiger in a lifeboat, and well, it's sort of hard to explain. but it's good - really." I thought this was a throughly thought provoking book. I love the depth of the metaphors prevented and the alpha/omega struggle. It's not often a fictional story can make me wish I could meet the character so I can ask my own questions. I gave it only 4 stars because it took me a bit to get into the story, but once I got there I had no problem staying on track. ...more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE BOOK!
I liked the beginning and the end, but the middle... all the boring, never-ending miserable chapters in the middle... *sigh*

I actually listened to the audio of this during a long trip to and from Lubbock. I enjoyed it very much and thoroughly loved the ending.

I had a difficult time sticking with it in the beginning, but oh so glad that I did! Definitely a book to think about once you are finished.
