When I was a kid, my grandma sent me the first Harry Potter book. I made it through book 4 before we transitioned to a different church than the one we had been attending; this one was super-conservative and condemned all sorts of things... magic, fantasy, Halloween... and that was the end of my foray into Harry Potter's world. I liked this book a lot better than the movie, which I only barely remember. The book is funnier and more clever. However, I wasn't enthralled by Harry Potter. I kind of want to read the next one, but not to the exclusion of the other books on my bedside table. Maybe someday. Like if I were on bedrest for more than a week? I could appreciate the escapism then.

Listening to the series. :)
The first time I read it, I kept thinking, "Wow - Rowling comes up with such clever things as to how school is!" In reality - she's teaching us Americans how the British boarding schools run - complete with houses, sorting, head boys/girls, etc. She didn't make up much!

all of the potter books were good, except the last one. easy to read, but very intriuging.
