This is Chicken Soup for the Adult Soul! Didn’t expect to enjoy this compilation of advice columns as much as I did.

Cheryl Strayed was an advice columnist called Dear Sugar. Not the Dear Abby type, but someone who gave real, raw advice. She would ask the questioner hard questions to ask themselves. She did it with kindness and care though, peppering in stories from her own life. Be prepared to really think about your life choices, and maybe shed a couple tears. Great book.

I was unfamiliar with the Dear Sugar advice column, and this collection of “greatest hits” covered a wide range of topics. The anonymous author (Cheryl Strayed, author of the memoir Wild), shares deeply vulnerable personal anecdotes in response to each of her letters which is what makes it feel so impactful. I didn’t love the way she refers to everyone as a pet name like Honey Bun or Sweet Pea, but I did appreciate the empathetic way she responded to even the most entitled askers for advice.
