Definitely somewhere between odd and interesting. It's definitely the harsher side of the world and fairy tales. I did find myself attached to all three of the mains character, but I felt like the plotline was a little more simplistic (as compared to like Mortal Instruments or Ice & Fire, which were read so recently). I very much did like the ending though and I will read her next one in this series as well.

Hmmm. I liked this book, probably 3.5 stars worth. The writing reminded me a little of Francesca Lia Block, who I really like.
Kaye is 16 years old and different from her peers in a way she can't pin down - her head's in the clouds, her daydreams sometimes come to life - and she used to communicate with faeries when she was little. Now she's returned to her childhood home and stumbles back upon that world she thought she had lost access to. When she finds out she is a changling and her faerie fr ...more

I read this for the 2015 Challenge category "based entirely on the cover" - what a gorgeous cover! This was a nice little story, very firmly a YA novel, with little cross over appeal for adults. If you liked Need, you will probably like Tithe.
Kaye has always felt like the weird girl, never really fitting in. On top of that, her mother's parenting style is .... no parenting at all. They move around a lot, since her mother is a frustrated musician, and also apparently an alcoholic. She lets Kaye d ...more

I was on page 162 and I was just going to read a chapter before bed. Just one chapter. And then I finished it all, staying up an extra hour to do so.
This is the kind of book that I would have swallowed in one gulp if I had allowed myself to earlier. The characters are real and the story is gritty, and magic abounds. I love the twists and turns in this book and how Kaye is a strong teen girl.

Tithe is one of those books that I devoured in one sitting, and absolutely loved. The problem with books like that, is that I often forget how much I love them since I spend so little time with the characters in my inability to stop reading straight through.
I finally got my hands on a copy of Ironside, and wanted a refresher on Tithe so I wouldn't be lost or miss any of the subtle nuances of the story.
It happened again. I drank this story down, closed the final page and gave a great sigh of sa ...more

Horrible. Not even worth writing a review on what I read (which was about 50 pages of this crap).
I couldn't get past the chain smoking, school-skipping, foul-mouthed belligerent teens. There's no way this book is written for YA on any sort of level that would encourage them to make the right choices. Instead, what I saw glorified all of the above behavior and sickened me.

An interesting book, but rather chaotic, which may be what the author had in mind. Sometimes I had no clue what was going on, and that wasn't helped by some boring and/or confusing explanations. I'll probably pick up the next book that I see features new main characters. That might help my enjoyment of the story, as Kaye was touch and go for me. Overall, a bit flawed, but generally entertaining.
