Listening to this book in audio format was perfect. The multiple narrators gave separation to the different stories and helped keep the characters distinct. I was disappointed with the ending of the book -- I felt that the author couldn't quite figure out how to get off stage and rushed extraodinary events as a way to reach resolution. I listened to this book on audio CDs from the library, which I would highly recommend. The voices were a wonderful way to keep the characters straight, even when they'd just when introduced, and it drove home how different all the characters were when you could hear the differences in their accents and intonations.

My library system picked this as a book club read a year or two ago. The description sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The novel is told from multiple perspectives, primarily from Alma and Mayor. Alma is a Mexican immigrant who comes to Delaware with her husband, Arturo, and daughter, Maribel, in the hopes of providing a better chance of recovery for Maribel following a terrible injury. A pretty good book, the story revolves around Maribel, a teenager who suffered an accident resulting in TBI. Her parents bring her from Mexico to the US, in hopes that enrolling her in a good school will help heal her brain. They move into a run down apartment complex, filled with lots of kind, interesting neighbors hailing from all parts of Latin America.
