I wanted this to be better. Part of this is because self-help books are usually not my jam, so maybe I can't hold that against this book. Part of it also might be because Rubin is possibly overly-critical of herself, which can sound like she's very upset about #firstworldproblems, when maybe she's comparatively not actually that upset them; it's hard to tell without knowing her personally. There are some chapters of the book that I found were very useful - the one about contemplating death, for

I remember reading some of the entries for "The Happiness Project" while Gretchen Rubin was writing for Slate and thinking what a great idea it was. Taking a whole year for self-improvement and finding ways to be happier seems like something we should all do. But this book is BO-RING. I was also completely turned off by her introduction, which I thought was disingenuous. No, she did not just decide she wanted to be happier and appreciate life more fully, naysayers be damned... She decided she ne

Took me over ten years to finally get to this, but when I did I spent a lazy Saturday listening to the audiobook. Gretchen's idea to focus on happiness throughout a year is super interesting to me. I appreciated how she shared nuggets learned from researching about happiness as she went through the months executing her own Happiness Project. This is a journey that will stick with me.

Great book. Author builds in a lot of quick and easy ways to increase well being and happiness. There are so many great tools that are accessible to everyone, that we don't know about, or forget to use. I found it very interesting, and very readable, unlike a lot of other self-help books. Highly recommend!

Great book! Great way to break down what needs to be done to increase your satisfaction with your life as it is, bringing more happiness.

I don't understand the scorn for this book in the reviews I am reading here. What's wrong with wanting to live one's life more fully and enjoy it more? That's what we're here for, people! You only get one chance, you might as well enjoy yourself! I guess these are the same people who hate Eat, Pray, Love and everything else I like.
Anyway, I loved this book and got a lot of ideas from it. I think this is a book I will go back to again and again. ...more

I LOVE this book. I love the entire premise and I want to start my own project. I really appreciated that this was just an average woman without a major crisis who just wanted to be happier and set about to do so. A lot of what she said really resonated with me. I'd highly recommend this book.
