Read like a fairytale. Love the friendships and strong women. This was a book club book that I would not have chosen but loved.
I LOVED this book. One of the reviews says it would be the love child of Gabriel Garcia Marquez (who I love) and Willa Cather (who I love). Magical realism based on a Russian fairy tale meets homesteading on the Alaskan frontier. All of the characters are great. This is just a perfect, winter, ignore-your-chores read that totally swept me up. The author's notes are awesome as well.

4.5 stars!!!! I loved this story! A fun winter fairytale and a magical story! Such beautiful imagery, great characters, touching relationships! I am longing to go to Alaska although I know I do not want to live like this couple - the beauty of the land and the despair of their lives is so poetic in this story and makes me yearn to visit even more!
