Before the holidays Oprah chose "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett as her book club pick. It sounding very interesting when she described it . . . 12th century, building a cathedral, love, war, and lots more. I really like historical fiction so I thought I'd give it a try. I bought the book at Barnes and Noble and also downloaded the audiobook from Audible.com. finally giving in to the pressure of my sister.

I liked this book better than I thought I would! It was an entertaining read, and although I doubt I'll ever read it again, I'm not sorry that I spent a couple weeks slogging through it.

This book took me awhile to get into; its size was certainly daunting and it was really slow to get off the ground. I started to get interested somewhere along the way, and REALLY wanted to see the bad guy get his. Overall, I was happy with the book, but it also wasn't the greatest thing I've ever read.

A historical novel about the building of a medieval cathedral. I enjoyed the historical details, but just didn't buy the characters' language and conversation...too modern for its times.
