I can honestly say that I learned things from this book that have already changed my life. In my hallway are five large boxes full of books and clothing, waiting to be collected by a local charity shop. It's just the tip of the iceberg.
The reason I give the book four stars is that, for the first 40 pages or so, Miss Kondo repeats the initial message several times. In essence, "if you use my system, it will be great..." You've already got me, Marie - I've bought your book and I'm ready to get do ...more

A few really great principles in this book, like:
- the secret to keeping things tidy is decluttering. So many of us have way too much stuff. (She is Japanese, so I can't imagine what she'd make of my very overstuffed American closets and garage ...) Even if we "might need it someday," most of the time we can just buy it when we need it instead of wasting time trying to find it (if we even remember about it!).

I'm almost scared to review this book: people are rabid on both sides of the equation.
Listen, it's an organizing book. There are thousands of books on organizing out there. If caressing and communing with your belongings to make sure they do in fact belong is your jam, go for it. If not, read one of the other gazillion organization books by another charming guru.
I lack the mysticism necessary to jive with this method, and found Kondo a little too earnest for my taste. YMMV. ...more

While some of the ideas are a little out of step with American culture, there are many great tips for decluttering and freeing your life from the burden of too many possessions. I enjoyed reading it and will apply the strategies that fit my life (and probably won't start emptying my purse every day). I'll also pass this book along to someone else to help them get organized!

It's a good books, a fun method though not for everybody. I am having some regret over throwing some things away.

This book has interesting ideas, but it doesn't have all the answers. Obviously the writer doesn't organize houses with kids and sometimes it was cheesy, but I liked the overall idea.
