I am no longer much interested in reading "coming of age" stories, and in a way, that's what this book is. I wanted to read it because it showed up on a list of Food in Fiction. It was not exactly what I expected, much sadder even than the title would lead one to believe; I shelved it as Fantasy to let people who can't stand anything that 'couldn't be real' know that this isn't a book for them.

I think this was a good idea but the author got lost along the way. I loved the idea of being able to taste people's feelings but I'm not sure the author knew exactly what to do with this little gem and suddenly you have a story of a family but with very little coherence and actual plot. I finished the book because it was an easy read but honestly, I don't think anything actually happened per se and I was left very disappointed.
