This is a fantastic STORY...but I find that I didn't really enjoy the writing. Because of the lackluster prose it took me a long time to get through it. There were things I'd rather do than read...which is abnormal for me. The story was really intriguing and the action was excellent. That being said, I'm oddly surprised to find myself saying I expect the movie will be better than the book. ...more

Another incredibly well imagined and written dystopian world! Exciting and mysterious and frankly a little scary. I loved the entire series.

Oh, I loved this book. The only thing i didn't love was the female character. Thomas, finds himself in a land filled with boys who have made themselves a community to survive. They live among huge, stone walls that open in the day to reveal an ever-changing Maze. To escape this place, the boys must solve the Maze and run from the Grievers - hideous animal/machine creatures with blubbery skin and lots of weapons. I started reading this series for the fact the bookclub at school (which I help run) will undoubtedly be talking about this series and seeing the movies, but I've actually given up. Which nearly never happens. We're talking like 0.001%. I've never thrown a book across the room or at a wall. I've finished horrible things, but I have someone lovely who really does talk me out of doing terrible things to my brain.

I made it halfway through book two, and my opinions haven't changed in the slightest.

I absolutely loved this book and I read it in 2 days because I couldn't put it down. It took me a few chapters to get into the feel of the book and to stop being distracted by the fact that my college friend "Jamie" Dashner was this big time best-selling book-to-movie author now and I was reading something that he wrote LOL. But once I got comfortable with the unique language and all the characters in the story, I was hooked 100% and couldn't put the book down. Loved the story, loved the mystery ...more

Had to read this one before we do a YA program based on the book for the library and before the movie comes out. Very good! Excellent for reluctant boy readers.

Thought this was similar to the LOST T.V. series..it just keeps you guessing but I thought it was a lot more violent towards the end then I would like to see for a YA series. Not sure if I will read the second in this series.
