What Members Thought
This book started out really good and I was sucked in pretty quickly. Then it went sour for me. One reason was because I had the killer pegged almost immediately. I thought it was pretty damn obvious. And every clue that was uncovered kept proving my theory. I was actually getting extremely frustrated that the detectives didn't figure it out sooner. Certain things happened that I found extremely suspicious and was then annoyed when it was just brushed aside or not even given a second thought.

The pace of this felt so elegant, especially for this genre.
I really enjoyed this mystery, but the resolutions were a bit too heartbreaking for me at the end--kind of a let down. One of the things I look for in a good book is how well a female author writes a male main character, and I found the writing of Detective Ryan to skew too feminine. Still, the author writes really well--enough for me to eventually come back to this series, I think.
It’s been quite a while since I couldn’t put a book down. The mysteries brought me in, but the characters and the detective process and the freaking gorgeous writing hooked me - eerie and authentic and just damn amazing structure. Loved it.
