The characters are wonderfully written - the language of the book is beautiful. An interesting mystery, well actually two mysteries. A young boy is found in the woods terrified and hugging a tree - his two friends are gone and his shoes are filled with blood. Now, the boy is grown up and a detective trying to solve another child murder. The protagonist is ok in the beginning but then just turns into this awful man-child. This is one of this books that I kept coming across and could never decide if I wanted to read, so I finally did. Unfortunately those are hours I will never get back.
The first two hundred pages were slow going as I would read 30 pages and then get bored and go do something else, but I was intrigued enough to find out what happen to keep going.
There's a section in the middle that it spends up and is enjoyable, but the last hundred or so pages degenerates into this horrible whining mess. The end ...more

Not usually a fan of murder mysteries, I picked up the audio book because it had such great reviews. It was truly awesome. After a seven-hour drive, I didn't want to get out of the car because I was completely engrossed in the story and wanted to keep going. Great characters, twisty plot, beautifully written and a great narrator. One of the best ever!
