Most of this book made me feel embarrassed to call myself human haha Bradbury definitely has a way of slicing open the human ideology and showing the reader all the beautiful and all the ugliness and greed all at once. He doesn't make any apologies, and he does it with wonderful and flowing prose that you almost don't mind, but reading this wrapped me up in a kind of melancholy that made me feel like I too was wandering a vast and lonely planet.

This book is a compilation of short stories, some of which were published separately. It was published as a collection in the 1950's. Bradbury imagines that around the year 2000, people from Earth attempt to colonize Mars. It's tough at first; the Martians don't want us there (and why should they?) Wow, this was brilliant. I loved how it was set 'in the future' which starts in 1999 and actually does go up to 2026, so there's still a bit of future left over. But I loved the 50s and 60s view of the turn of the century, so that was fun.
But, more than that, the rise and fall of the Martian empire was just epic. Absolutely fascinating and told in bits and pieces. And part of me is just wondering how I would feel if I read the short stories in a magazine without reading it as a part of the book ...more
