Post-apocalyptic zombie novels are not my usual reading fare; however, this was recommended to me and I'm so glad that I decided to give it a try! Set in the not-so-distant future in the UK after a period referred to as the Breakdown, the plot centers around a girl named Melanie being held at a detention center. Kudos to MR Carey for writing an interesting, suspenseful, new take on a popular subject, and with complex, strong female characters to boot! I really liked the ending and it was a big part of what made this story fresh.

A good (but not great) zombie action story

There was a steady flow of, "Hey, wait a sec..." moments, but if you can get past them, it's not a bad read. The beginning and ending were the best parts.
