Post-apocalyptic zombie novels are not my usual reading fare; however, this was recommended to me and I'm so glad that I decided to give it a try! This book was truly fascinating. I loved the different take on things, on the idea of what truly makes up humanity and a person human.
Every character had a decidedly different way they'd gotten to where they were, and the idea that some of the characters had even 'run away' to escape another life, that this harsh chemical smelling life was so much better, was incredible. I wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't. At the start of this book, I was intrigued by Melanie's situation. However, after about 100 pages the book changes and becomes downright boring. I didn't find any of the characters to be all that interesting, it was hard to visualize what was happening at times, and the story just became ridiculous. Oh well, at least it was a fast read
