I decided to read this book because I love dystopian novels and it is a classic. It would constantly come up on the "must read" dystopian booklists.
Um... I think it was just ok. It was written in 1948 (thus the flipped date / but published in 1949). Orwell was living in a Europe that was being divided up after WW2, and his politcal surroundings had a large impact on his work.
Although its relevant to today, it just wasn't a book I enjoyed. It was just ok. I'm glad I read it but I wouldn't necess ...more

Certainly a classic, and has some eerie predictions for politics gone bad, but has very little plot, and I can't see what it has that would make it worth studying it in a classroom, also note some content sexuality and torture may not be suitable for all readers.
