What an emotional roller coaster this book took me on! It was fascinating and gut-wrenching and hopeful and thought-provoking. I struggled through the writing style (written from the perspective of a 5 year old boy) in the first section of the book before I really understood what the book was about and where it was going. Once I got comfortable with Jack's speech patterns and style and perspective I couldn't put the book down. The author had some really wonderful 5-year-old-boy insights that I a ...more

What an amazing book! The book started slowly but by the second chapter, the pace of the book picked up and really gathered steam towards the end. Its a really interesting novel and definitely an interesting concept of using Jack as the narrator, even though he is only 5 years old. Highly recommended.

Unlike many other reviewers who seem to either love or hate this book, I find myself solidly in the middle of these two extremes. I only gave this 2 stars, but I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I finished it a week ago. I was pleased that the story (mini spoiler alert) did not go into the incest realm nor did it go into the story of the guy and WHY he did it. The story pulled me thru, page after page. The ending especially tugged at my heart, when Jack realized that the world really IS a big place and that "Room" was only a starting point for him. I like this line from a review I read, "For Jack, his days we ...more

Hmmm, mixed feelings about this book. It was compelling and a very unique pov and perspective. The book made me sad but also had many bittersweet moments. It's hard to say one could enjoy a sad plot but I couldn't put it down either! ...more
