What an emotional roller coaster this book took me on! It was fascinating and gut-wrenching and hopeful and thought-provoking. I struggled through the writing style (written from the perspective of a 5 year old boy) in the first section of the book before I really understood what the book was about and where it was going. Once I got comfortable with Jack's speech patterns and style and perspective I couldn't put the book down. The author had some really wonderful 5-year-old-boy insights that I a

An emotional roller coaster of a book. In giving the narration over to 5 year old Jack, Emma Donaghue relieves us of the emotional burden of the horror of his & Ma's captivity. I read this book faster than I have read anything in a long while, just because I could not put it down. I was up late, reading on breaks, in parking lots, and during commercial breaks. A terrific, emotionally draining read.

I thought it was a great book. I think many aspects of this book will stick with me for quite some time. I'm not usually one to read such a dark book, but it really worked for me this time.

Utterly compelling, told entirely in 5 year old Jack's voice. Totally different from anything else I have read.

The ending especially tugged at my heart, when Jack realized that the world really IS a big place and that "Room" was only a starting point for him. I like this line from a review I read, "For Jack, his days we

I listened to this. I loved the voice for Jack and thus loved his character. I'm not sure if I didn't like the Mom, or if it was the way the character was voiced. Throughout this book, it just stuck with me that this storyline has happened, more than once, in real life. It's haunting.

What an amazing book! I was hesitant to pick this up, as the entire book is told from the perspective of a five-year-old and I wasn't sure how that would work. I give huge credit to Emma Donaghue for not only making this book work, but for making a poignant story from a very different perspective.
