I don't understand how the garbage that is book 4 was written in the same batch as this. The writing is SO much better--very cinematic at times--and the characters are infinitely more interesting. New voices and locations mixed in with the old favorites, with cliffhanger endings for nearly every character. Lots of major pieces being moved into place for what will be an epic showdown. Armies, personal schemes, things that aren't human.... The Winds of Winter is going to be awesome.

Even doing that it took me months to read because I would put it down for weeks a time. Martin's editors seriously need to step it up. I hope the fame of the tv show isn't ruining Martin's ability to write great books.
