My seven-year-old son and I read this together, and both of us thought it was weird but fun. It is very different from the movie, and I am quite surprised that someone like Tim Burton hasn't gotten a hold of it and given it a more accurate adaptation. Of course the biggest difference that everyone knows about by now is the fact that the slippers given to Dorothy were silver instead of ruby. Anne Hathaway's narration is lovely. A classic tale that, if you've only watched the movie, is full of surprises.

This is the first time I have read this childhood classic since my sisters and I were kids. It was interesting to see how the movie differed from the book, and while I well-remembered some events, there were others I had quite forgotten. I look forward to passing this on to my youngest niece!

I suspect I would have loved this if I'd read it before I saw the movie. As it was, there were no surprises.
