I'd heard of the Wright Brothers, but beyond "Orville and Wilbur" and "Kitty Hawk" and something about Ohio I really knew nothing else about them.
And as for McCullough: as a former history major, it was almost an embarrassment that I hadn't really read anything written by him. (I did listen to 1776 last summer, which I now remember nothing about, so can I really count that?)

This was my first book by McCullough and I'll definitely be reading more. I gained a new appreciation not only for the struggles of the wright brothers in their monumental achievement, but also for the era in which such an achievement was accomplished. The wright brothers are unlikely heroes, doubted by every one they meet, no matter their progress. And yet they are steadfast and resolute with great consequence.
